Cryovac® NewGen Non-Forming Web Merits Honor

Innovative Packaging Wins the Silver Achievement Award for Packaging Excellence

DUNCAN, S.C. (Feb. 27, 2004) – The Cryovac Food Packaging Division of Sealed Air Corporation has been recognized with one of the packaging industry’s most important national honors. The Washington, D.C.-based Flexible Packaging Association selected Cryovac® NewGen Non-Forming Web as a recipient of a 2004 Silver Achievement Award, citing its innovative technology and multiple benefits for processors.

The Flexible Packaging Achievement Awards are granted to inventive packaging that has contributed to the advancement of the industry. The award-winning Cryovac® NewGen Non-Forming Web merited the honor due to the unique process used to create the material and the resulting durability.

Cryovac® NewGen Non-Forming Web replaces traditional trap printed laminate structures with a fully coextruded base material that is then printed using a proprietary surface printing system. The ink does not abrade from the film, and the package’s abuse resistance is equal to a laminated structure. This fundamental change in laminate packaging technology delivers, in a coextruded material, properties that mimic adhesive laminate films made with an oriented printing substrate. The resulting film eliminates de-lamination concerns and creates registered surface print colors that are sharper and more appealing because they are not obscured by a substrate layer. In addition, customer lead times can be improved because the coextruded structure is manufactured in a single process without the time-consuming adhesive laminating steps.
