BAN OF PLASTIC BAGS AND PACKAGING PROPOSED BY THE FRENCH PARLIAMENT
As part of their examination of the agricultural orientation bill, on October 11th French members of Parliament voted an amendment prohibiting the sale or distribution of non-biodegradable plastic bags or packaging in France as from January 1st, 2010.
A press release of CSEMP (the French Plastic Packaging Manufacturers Associations) highlights that, although biodegradable plastics already have a market in France and in Europe, they are still far from representing a valid alternative to conventional plastics in all applications, because of technical and economic reasons.
Successively, the French Parliament modified the amendment by restricting the ban to shopping bags only.
